MANGROVE SERIES (2012-2018)
The “Mangrove Series” extends the exploration of Gaia's themes, focusing on the intricate balance of our planet through the lens of these vital, yet endangered ecosystems. Inspired by the mangroves facing erasure near my beach home in Versova, Andheri, this series builds on the same existential questions as the previous Gaia series, reflecting on the sustainability of our world and the need to protect these natural guardians.
Here, the mangroves’ complex root systems and unique resilience become a powerful metaphor for broader environmental concerns, rendered through a distinctive blend of pointillism and hyperrealism.By incorporating pointillism, I meticulously build up textures and details to evoke the delicate, layered nature of the mangrove environment. This technique, combined with hyperrealistic elements, creates a vivid and immersive representation that highlights both the beauty and the fragility of these ecosystems. The series serves as both a visual celebration of the mangroves’ complexity and a poignant reminder of their vulnerability, engaging viewers in a dialogue about conservation and the urgent need for environmental stewardship. Through this fusion of artistic techniques, I continue the quest initiated by Gaia, seeking to connect personal reflection with pressing ecological realities.
